    Recommended Use

    Take 2-4 capsules of Ca-AKG in the morning or as a split dose with 1 to 2 capsules in the morning and an additional one to two in the early afternoon. CaAKG can be taken with or without food.

    CaAKG can have a mild stimulatory effect in some individuals. If you find it difficult to sleep, then it is advised that you take your full dose in the morning.

    Everything You Need To Know About CaAKG

    Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AKG) is a naturally occurring compound in the body and a key component of the Krebs cycle, the body’s main energy-producing pathway that converts food into useable energy within cells. Once nutrients enter the cell the cycle uses AKG to extract energy from them.

    The Calcium Alpha-Ketoglutatrate (Ca-AKG) form of AKG is the molecule used in the 2020 landmark longevity study, which showed that AKG has a positive effect on reducing frailty and increasing lifespan.

    Although AKG is a key component of the Krebs cycle, the benefits of supplementation are thought to have a dual role. The body typically produces enough AKG, and deficiencies are rare; however, AKG production declines with age. In addition to replenishing levels, externally supplied AKG has been studied for its ability to disrupt cellular energy balance, triggering a stress response that downregulates mTOR, a key regulator of growth and metabolism linked to accelerated ageing when overactivated.

    The mTOR (mechanistic target of rapamycin) pathway is a major regulator of cell growth, protein creation, and energy consumption. When nutrient and energy levels are high, mTOR is activated, promoting growth processes. However, chronic mTOR activation accelerates ageing by driving excessive growth and reducing the cell’s ability to repair and resist stress.

    Externally supplied AKG appears to have a dual effect on cellular energy. As well as ensuring the body has enough AKG to create cellular energy (ATP), it may inhibit limit enzymes responsible for the final step in ATP production. This inhibition reduces ATP levels, activating energy-conserving pathways such as AMPK, which in turn inhibits mTOR activity.

    These pathways—AMPK and mTOR—are believed to be key mechanisms by which CaAKG supports longevity and bone health. It slows excessive growth, switches on cellular repair processes, and allows the body to better respond to stress.

    Healthy AKG levels ensure efficient cellular energy production to power all essential cellular processes. General mitochondrial function decline and damage, slower metabolism and decreased muscle mass (a major source of AKG production) all contribute to decreases in AKG production over time. By maintaining healthy AKG levels, the body can efficiently produce energy, support cellular repair, and sustain healthy metabolism. Optimal AKG levels help the body function at its best.

    In addition, healthy mTOR activation is a balanced, context-dependent response that promotes growth and repair when nutrients are abundant and deactivate during low-energy states to support cellular maintenance and stress resistance. However, mTOR can become overactive due to chronic overnutrition, such as excessive calorie and carbohydrate intake. Certain conditions like obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic disorders further drive excessive mTOR activation. This overactivity can impair autophagy (the process of clearing damaged cells), reduce cellular repair, and increase oxidative stress.

    Studies show that after age 40, Alpha-Ketoglutarate levels begin to decline, and supplementation can help counteract this drop, promoting optimal cellular function. A landmark longevity study demonstrated improved lifespan and reduced frailty in ageing mice, believed to be due to CaAKG’s ability to inhibit excessive mTOR activation, enhancing autophagy, cellular maintenance, and stress resistance, ultimately supporting healthier ageing and increased longevity.

    CaAKG is alpha-ketoglutarate bound to calcium, whereas other forms of alpha-ketoglutarate often use the amino acid arginine as a base. Studies suggest that binding with calcium may improve the absorption and effectiveness of alpha-ketoglutarate. CaAKG was also the form used in the landmark longevity study related to lifespan and age-related frailty.

    CaAKG is not naturally found in foods, though alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) does occur in small amounts in red meat, fish, and dairy products. Interestingly, ketogenic diets are thought to help conserve AKG levels in the body.

    While there is no established upper limit for CaAKG, excessive amounts may cause gastrointestinal discomfort. CaAKG also contains calcium, which may not be suitable for individuals with kidney issues or those on long-term medications. We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before starting CaAKG if you are on any ongoing medications.

    In mouse studies, CaAKG reduced fur greying, likely due to its protective effects on melanocytes (pigment-producing cells), its support for mitochondrial function, and its benefits for stem cell health.     How to claim the guarantee

    • Email returns@vitality-pro.com with your order number, which you'll find in your order confirmation email.
    • We'll send you the address to return your product to. Please include a note with your order number inside the parcel so we can identify your return.
    • Once your return is received, we'll process your refund within 7 days.

    Return shipping costs: You'll need to arrange and pay for return shipping unless the product arrived faulty or damaged. All returns are sent to our UK return address. If you're ordering from outside the UK, please keep in mind that international return shipping can be expensive.

    Multiple bottles or larger quantities: If you buy multiple bottles or a larger quantity of the same product in a single order, the guarantee covers the use of one bottle, or the smallest individual size supplied. Any additional unopened units must be returned to receive a refund.

    For example, if you order 180 capsules and receive 2 × 90-capsule bottles, you can open and use one 90-capsule bottle. The second bottle must be returned.

    The 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee does not apply to our 100g NMN or 100g Resveratrol products, as we offer smaller 20g and 30g options to give you the opportunity to try the product before committing to a larger supply.
