Magnesium Glycinate is a popular nutritional supplement that combines magnesium, an essential mineral, with glycine, an amino acid.
Magnesium is crucial for numerous biochemical reactions in the body, and is known to support bone health, nerve and muscle function, and the production of energy.
However, not all forms of magnesium are easily absorbed by the body. Magnesium Glycinate is often preferred due to its higher bioavailability; the presence of glycine improves magnesium’s absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, Magnesium Glycinate is generally gentle on the stomach and less likely to cause the laxative effects that other magnesium supplements might.
People might choose to take Magnesium Glycinate to boost their magnesium levels, support overall health, or address specific issues such as muscle cramps, anxiety, or poor sleep.
What is the difference between Magnesium Glycinate and Bisglycinate?
Magnesium glycinate and magnesium bisglycinate are the same. See here on pubchem:
Everything including the molecular structure is exactly the same. The belief that Magnesium Glycinate has one glycine molecule is not true and it does not exist.
- Magnesium glycinate is the common name for the compound with the chemical formula C4H8MgN2O4. It is a single magnesium molecule linked to two glycinate ions to form a salt.
- Magnesium bisglycinate is the accurate chemical name, whereas magnesium glycinate is the common name.
