Research Focus and Breakthroughs
Since Ben’s primary focus is living an optimised life, his research is holistic and covers all aspects of human functioning, down to a cellular level in many cases. This said, Greenfield’s primary research focused on biomechanics and the science of sports and movement. As time progressed, he started researching nutrition and pharmaceuticals, which helped immensely with understanding quality supplements and the foods we should eat. Greenfield believes the commonly used food pyramid needs to be corrected, as the ratios are not ideal for optimal health.
Today, Ben Greenfield is known as the Biohacking Guru as he researches them extensively and uses biohacks daily when facing city life and modern-day issues. At a recent Biohacking Conference, Ben recommended a number of biohacks, including jaw realignment, brain flushing, using nutrients to promote decreased inflammation in the brain and promote acetylcholine production, and monitoring and normalising blood glucose through movement and not snacking. Other Ben Greenfield biohacking suggestions are enjoying regular infrared sauna sessions, doing Kundalini yoga and Wim Hof breathing, and taking hot and cold showers.
When it comes to biohacking nutrition Ben has moved on from the days where suggested starting the day with a fatty coffee (bulletproof coffee is a great example) and now advocates for the use of lower carbohydrate nutrient-dense smoothies for breakfast. He is a fan of using supplements to augment his nutrition and will regularly use blood sugar stabilising compounds such as apple cider vinegar, Ceylon cinnamon, and bitter melon extract to help keep his blood glucose levels in check. In conjunction with promoting intermittent fasting, Ben recommends following a keto diet to reset your body’s metabolism. Additionally, his research has shown that carbo-loading before endurance exercise is outdated and not as beneficial as was believed.

What Protocols Does Ben Greenfield Follow?
Ben is a busy man who leads a very active lifestyle. This said, he enjoys being out in nature, away from all the pollutants that affect our bodies.
During a typical day at home, Ben Greenfield follows a routine designed to enhance his health (note these are ever-evolving). An example being that when he wakes up, he has a mason jar of reverse osmosis filtered water with supplements to promote acetylcholine production, namely Lion’s Mane extract, Bacopa, and black ant powder. He then uses Vylight in his nose for 25 minutes. After the Vylight, Ben takes a hefty dose of non-flushing Niacin (about 1000mg) and then does kundalini yoga in his infrared sauna for 20 – 30 minutes to activate his chakras. Ben then practices Wim Hof’s breathing techniques outside before he jumps into a cold swimming pool for 5 minutes.
In his home office, he has a treadmill and a punching bag to vary his movement throughout the day.
His afternoon or evening exercise is varied and more intense, and at night, Ben uses low-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field therapy.
Regarding diet, Ben follows an intermittent fasting regime where he does “compressed feeding” in a window of 8 – 12 hours. He follows a low-carb diet and eats to regulate his blood glucose levels. Ben Greenfield’s supplement intake is also extensive, and in addition to taking those that promote acetylcholine production, he also takes bacopa herb, a quality multivitamin, creatine, and fish oil. A microdose of melatonin is also part of his supplemental regime, as is magnesium and peptides.
