Prostaphane capsules 1

What is it?

Sulforaphane is a naturally occurring compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and kale. It is a sulfur-rich compound produced when the enzyme myrosinase converts glucoraphanin into sulforaphane upon chewing or chopping the vegetables.

Whilst all other supplements on the market are only a combination of the precursors of sulforaphane (myrosinase and glucoraphanin) and do not contain actual sulforaphane, Prostaphane® is the only stabilised, free-form sulforaphane supplement available on the market.

How it works?

Sulforaphane activates the Nrf2 pathway, a defence mechanism against oxidative stress, by modifying a protein that typically binds and degrades Nrf2. This releases Nrf2, enabling it to bind to antioxidant response elements and switch on over 200 protective genes, including those that produce glutathione, a major antioxidant and detoxifier.

The Nrf2 pathway also regulates Phase I and II enzymes’ detoxification activity. Phase I enzymes transform substances into reactive molecules, which can potentially become toxins. Sulforaphane has been shown to reduce Phase I enzyme activity, thereby limiting toxin formation. Additionally, sulforaphane activates Phase II detoxification enzymes, such as those involved in glutathione production, which neutralise these reactive molecules and other toxins. These Phase II enzymes modify toxins to make them water-soluble so they can be more easily removed from the body.

Why Prostaphane?

Sulforaphane forms when myrosinase, an enzyme, combines with glucoraphanin in cruciferous vegetables. This happens when the vegetables are chewed or chopped. However, the process is sensitive to environmental factors such as pH, heat, and storage conditions, which can degrade myrosinase and reduce sulforaphane production. Gut bacteria can also contribute to this conversion, but their effectiveness varies based on an individual’s microbiome health and gut function.

Sulforaphane Formation 1

Most sulforaphane supplements only contain precursors like glucoraphanin and myrosinase, requiring conversion within the gut to produce active sulforaphane. However, this conversion depends heavily on individual factors such as microbiome health, gut pH, and enzyme activity, all of which can vary significantly from person to person. If these conditions are not optimal, the conversion may be inefficient, leading to reduced sulforaphane production and limiting the supplement’s effectiveness.

Problem with other supplements 1

Prostaphane® is unique as the only supplement that offers free-form, stabilised sulforaphane, ensuring up to 70% bioavailability, compared to significantly lower levels in supplements that only contain precursors like glucoraphanin and myrosinase. This high bioavailability guarantees that users receive a consistent and effective dose of sulforaphane. Prostaphane® has been clinically proven to be more effective.

Why is it important?

Healthy cells maintain a balance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the body’s ability to neutralise them with antioxidants. Overproduction of ROS, caused by environmental factors like pollution or poor diet, leads to oxidative stress, which damages cells.

Efficient detoxification supports the removal of harmful compounds and metabolic byproducts. Enzyme function in detoxification pathways can decline due to accumulated cellular damage, reduced nutrient intake, and decreased enzymatic activity. Compromised detoxification can lead to increased oxidative damage, inflammation, and impaired cellular repair.

Sulforaphane and longevity

By the age of 40–50, Nrf2 activity and antioxidant enzyme production can decline due to factors such as oxidative stress buildup, metabolism slowdown, and reduced cellular repair mechanisms. Sustained Nrf2 function aids in cellular repair and resilience, limiting the accumulation of damage over time. This protection supports cognitive health, metabolic balance, and the maintenance of joint and muscle function, maintaining physical and cognitive ability as we age.

Is Prostaphane for you?

Consider the following statements. If you find one or more relatable, Prostaphane might be the support you’ve been searching for:

  • I want to enhance my body’s natural detoxification processes.
  • I’m looking for ways to increase my glutathione levels without direct supplementation, as I cannot tolerate glutathione.
  • I’m interested in protecting my body from damage caused by environmental toxins and pollutants.
  • I understand that supporting NRF2 signalling can be beneficial for health, and I’m looking for supplements that can help in this area.
  • I’m looking for a supplement that may support brain health and cognitive function.
  • My healthcare provider recommended Sulforaphane or Prostaphane® specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prostaphane is likely safe for people with thyroid issues, however, some literature does indicate that some of the chemicals in Prostaphane might slow iodine transport by the thyroid. Iodine is required by the thyroid to make thyroid hormones. If you have any form of thyroid disease, please first consult with your doctor before choosing to take Prostaphane.

We recommend that you stick to a maximum of 3 capsules of Prostaphane a day unless under the supervision of a doctor. This will provide between 10 and 30 mg of free-form sulforaphane.

Sometimes referred to as a Herxheimer, a detox reaction occurs when the body starts to release stored chemicals faster than it can excrete them. For the most part, these are not harmful and will pass a few days after starting Prostaphane supplementation. Symptoms of a detox reaction include fatigue, headache and joint discomfort. To reduce the chances of developing a detox reaction we suggest that you start on one capsule of Prostphane and slowly increase your dosage.

Prostaphane® utilises a patented process to stabilise free-form sulforaphane. This process involves complexing sulforaphane with cyclodextrins, which are cyclic oligosaccharides. The inclusion of sulforaphane within the hydrophobic cavity of cyclodextrins protects it from degradation by stomach acid, thereby enhancing its stability and bioavailability. Studies have shown that such cyclodextrin complexes can preserve the biological activity of sulforaphane even at elevated storage temperatures .

This stabilisation technique allows Prostaphane® to deliver a consistent and bioavailable dose of sulforaphane without the need for enteric coating. Clinical data indicate that Prostaphane® achieves approximately 70% bioavailability, which is significantly higher than the 10% typically observed with precursor-based supplements containing glucoraphanin and myrosinase.
